Dr. German Mendez will present: "Coral Restoration at Villa Blanca Reef - Restoring and Conserving Coral Reefs through Education."
Dr. German Mendez founded the Cozumel Coral Reef Restoration Program in 2017 to conserve and restore Cozumel’s coral species. We grow and restore damaged corals in our coral nursery, then plant them in the Villablanca Reef. To date, we’ve built 29 coral restoration platforms and planted over 10,000+ coral fragments! We aim to conserve and protect Cozumel’s coral reefs from the human damage caused by development projects, cruise ships, and climate change. As coral reefs die off around the world, we’re trying to save Mexico’s most beautiful and important natural treasure.
