Desert Dolphins SCUBA Diving Club Feb 15th meeting
Presentation by Dora Sandoval - Diving in Baja Mexico and Socorro Islands Dive and interact with the friendliest giant mantas in the world. At Socorro, these giants choose to interact with divers. They come in very close, sometimes less than 1 meter, make eye contact and then swim along beside you, totally on their terms. It is very likely that bottlenose dolphins will also move in close and intimate to divers during your trip. Shark sightings are also very good at Socorro Island with common sightings of silky, galapagos, hammerhead, white tip and silver tip sharks. Humpback whale sightings and whale sharks are possible in season.

We have switched to a new Desert Dolphins SCUBA Club newsletter and club meeting notification system with Meetup.com.
We are unable to transfer email addresses from the old Yahoo email/notification system to the new system thus members need to add themselves to the new system at Meetup.com. There is no charge to join our Meetup group. To add yourself to our new announcement service

Welcome to Desert Dolphins Dive Club!

The Desert Dolphins Scuba Diving Club, the oldest active dive club in the state of Arizona and probably one of the oldest in the USA, was formed in the late 1950's by a mother, Nonie McKibbin (she later authored several Sea of Cortez books) whose daughter was interested in SCUBA diving. This small group was formed with the purpose of learning more about the ocean and sea life and became incorporated in January of 1959. The club provided certification classes, originally through the Arizona Skin Diving Council, and then paid for educating the club's own instructor, until about 1975. It was then the Club focused more on promoting interest and safety in skin and SCUBA diving, leaving the instruction up to the shops.

Our club has at least 4 exotic trips per year, and many more to the beaches of Mexico & Baja. All trips are planned by the Activities Committee and coordinated by individual members.
